Our shared history

Originally called Sandhurst, it was renamed Bendigo in 1891, after a local shepherd nicknamed for boxer William ‘Bendigo’ Thompson. Architect William Vahland designed notable landmarks, and Sir John Quick contributed to Australia’s Federation.
